CLASSICS

CLASSICS are carvings from an earlier time that have sentimental value in the carver’s collection.

The Ear of Corn was carved around 1983 or 1984 from a Pine shelving board.  It measures 13 inches tall and 4 and 1/2 inches wide and finished naturally with brushed on Deft.  It was carved primarily with knives with the dimples in the corn kernels carved using a home made blade made from a cuticle blade of a manicure knife.   It has hung in the kitchen ever since.

A relief carving of the Old Main building on the Wilmington College campus (Wilmington, OH.) was carved for the Bicentennial of Wilmington, Ohio in 2010 of historic landmarks and events.  This relief carving hangs in the Clinton County Courthouse along with several other relief carvings that were carved by the local carving club members at that time.  While the WOOD BEE CARVER is primarily a “knife” carver of small human figures and faces, yet on occasion other styles of carving projects have been explored using traditional carving tools.  Every carving project is a learning experience in the journey and adventure of carving a variety of projects and themes. A “CLASSIC” is determined by what it means to the carver in the heart of the artist.  In the end, the carver carves first for the carver while all others are simply ease droppers on the carver’s experience.
