Conewago Carvers of East Berlin, PA hosted a three day class with thirteen students who survived a Whittle-Carving experience taught by the WOOD BEE CARVER July 8, 9 & 10.  Pictured in the photo are (left to right front row) Dave Parker, Joan Hiser, Rose Huth, Jim Hiser, John Huth (back row left to right) Adam Ciemniechi, Jake Deery, Ed Otto, Gerald Smith, Tom Borecki, Ralph Buruick, Bob Hershey and Bruce Stake.

Learning about the A-B-C’s of face carving with the Rule of Three of facial proportions involved an exercise in carving a Three Version Face Stick.  Each student then chose to carve a face on either a Bust, a Shelf Squatter, an Egg Noggin or a full figure of their choice from the various examples of go-bys.  In between the serious carving each student carved a face on a golf tee as a Tee Noggin and a squatty Whittle Dwarf.

Joan and Jim Hiser of Carlisle, PA hosted me in their home with interesting conversations, delicious food and a tour of Jim’s carving studio.  It was a fun time as it always is whenever woodcarvers gather and the thirteen Survivor Students were a fun loving-eager to learn group of students.
