Snowmen are fun little carvings that seem to catch the imagination of anyone who has a memory of making a snowman out of the first snow during childhood.  In a way snowmen are one of the few positive things one can remember about snow unless one is fond of snow sports.  The snow I prefer is that of memory and of carved snowmen because I am like the fellow who said he likes the four seasons of Summer= Early Summer, Summer, Late Summer and Next Summer.

Snowmen are so much fun because they become our imaginary friends who like “Frosty the Snowman” runs and plays with our nostalgic memories of more pleasant times.  Carving friends who carve snowmen are even more special because they share the gift of creativity and generosity of spirit that warms the coldest of times with pleasant memories being made.  These collected snowmen carvings are reminders of special friends made over the years within the woodcarving circle.  Each snowman warms the heart and inspires the carving spirit to carve friendship deep into our relationships.

SNOWMAN JEWELRY PIN LEONARD WATTSSNOWMAN CARVED BY DON WORLEYSNOWMAN CARVED BY DON WORLEYThree more snowman carvings by well known carvers associated with the Dayton Artistry in Wood.  Leonard Watts and Don Worley carve “happy” carvings because they are “down to earth, happy fellows” who give so much to the wood carving family and are good friends.

SNOWMEN JEWELRY PIN BY GLENN STEWARTGlenn Stewart and his wife Judy are carving friends of many years who live in Hawesville, Kentucky.  We are with them at the Middletown and Cincinnati, Ohio shows where they display their wonderful carvings.  Glenn is a fine carver who is very adapt at carving miniatures (very mini miniatures) as well as larger pieces of hound dogs, deer and turtles, but his jewelry pieces are especially eye catching.  The Stewarts have carved a place in our hearts of which this trio of snowmen warms our hearts as well.

PATRICK WENTZEL CARVED SNOWMENPatrick Wentzel is a friend from West Virginia who has a passion for carved miniature circus  Check out his web site www.patrickwentzel.com to get a look at what he does.  He sent me this photograph of a snowmen family he carved using only a pocket knife.  His style creates eye catching interest in the  movement of the hats, scarves and mittens adorning the simplicity of bottle shaped snowmen.  A clever idea and  superb carving are reflected in these carvings.

Wood carving friends who carve snowmen friends warms the heart of this old carver with an appreciation of our shared love of woodcarving.
