WHITTLE FOLK ‘POKES are carvings done in a Western theme.  Each one, except for the miniature and the bust, were carved out of a three quarter inch square by four inch tall basswood block using only a knife and in particular just the tip end of the blade using a slicing cut.

These Whittle Folk ‘Pokes pictured in this photo trail are a representation of approximately fifty cowpokes carved between 1996 and 2003.  Each of these have been saved by the WOOD BEE CARVER because they received blue ribbons in various carving shows while the “ones that got away” are in private collections.  The “Poke Bust” is two inches tall and the miniature cowboy is one inch and seven eighths tall by seven sixteenth inch wide at the base.

All are colored using the combination of artist oil paint and boiled linseed oil as described in the “Painting Softly” post of this Blog.
