At the Artistry in Wood Show in Dayton, November 8 and 9, 2008 Lynn Doughty “knocked me over with a feather of generosity” by giving me a caricature carving of my likeness that he had carved. Lynn carves his own unique style that has given him a reputation of being an outstanding carver of Western themes that often convey a humorous story in the pose and expression of the carving. The “gift” of his carving is also shared through his educational and informative www.outwestwoodcarving.blogspot.com and through his participation in wood carving shows across the country.
Here is a picture of Lynn and his lovely wife Judy at the Artistry in Wood Show. Judy is the one who adds beauty and class to Lynn’s carving booth display. They live on their “ranch” near Jay, Oklahoma with their horses, chuck wagon and artist/carver Studio and Museum. Their chuck wagon is a working chuck wagon in that they take it to “round ups” and cook their biscuits, pot of beans and cowboy coffee. Of course, Lynn has a story or two to go along with anything he does making him a “treasure of a friend.”
Lynn really does not need to sign his carvings because they are carved with his own unique style that they already bear his signature as being a “Lynn Doughty” Carving. In a way one can say that Lynn has made a name for himself within the carving world. He certainly has added “Friend” to his signature. “THANK YOU LYNN FOR BEING A WOOD CARVING FRIEND.”
This back side view of the caricature carving of Don Mertz brings this story of the gift of friendship to an end but the friendship continues on into the next chapters of the wood carving adventure.
