SPIT-N-WHITTLE
Woodcarving Illustrated hosted a Spit-N-Whittle booth at the Artistry in Wood Show, Dayton, Ohio November 14 and 15. Individual carvers were scheduled to demonstrate carving a project for an hour as a way to interact with show patrons and offer encouragement for wood carving. What follows are photographs of some of those carvers during their demonstration hour and visitors listening and watching.
There were other carvers who demonstrated and interacted with visitors to the show who were not photographed in the act. This Spit-N-Whittle attraction was a great way to get to know some of the carvers, ask them questions and watch their carving demonstration. Artistry in Wood as well as Woodcarving Illustrated promotes what is best about wood carving just as every carver who does the same be it at a show, a woodcarving club meeting or one carver showing another carver-to-be the finer points of carving.
That is one of the wonderful experiences of the carving community as we all encourage and learn from one another. Some of the very best people one will ever meet will be woodcarvers who carve not only wood but also carves friendship upon another’s heart. Some of my best friends are wood carvers. Thanks to Artistry in Wood and Woodcarving Illustrated for contributing to such friendships.
