GRAY BEARD PIRATE

Posted by: woodbeecarver   in Carving Projects

The visual image of this carved pirate has been carved several times as a red beard or black beard pirate. It only stands to reason in the imaginary world of pirate myth that there surely were old pirates who had weathered the seas of ancient history. Such is the reason for carving another version of this carving pirate theme with a gray beard and braided hair. A pirate is a carver’s dream of a carving project because of the variety of anomalies of design compared with a regular figure.

The photographic gallery begins with the finished carving with its colored presentation.  The gallery continues with the beginning process of the development of the carving process in the unpainted natural basswood appearance. The next photos show the beginning process of carving the hat and head to basic form and the drawing of the guidelines for the body parts between the shoulders and the bottom of the foot on the four views of the block of wood. Next with be three photos of progress of carving followed by five photos of completed carving without coloration. The pirate is carved in a six inch tall and an inch and half square block of basswood and finished with artist oil paint thinned in boiled linseed oil.

The cost of a pirate’s ear ring is a “buccaneer.”
